Teacher Explains
β¨ What is Soil?
Alright class, today we're diving into the wonderful world of soil! Many of you probably already know that soil comes from rocks breaking down over time. You might also know about the different layers of soil, like topsoil, subsoil, and bedrock. And who remembers what makes the topsoil so good for plants? That's right, humus! Plus, soil is full of important minerals.
β¨ Rocks and Minerals
Before we get started, can anyone name five things that make soil fertile? And what about five resources that are renewable and non-renewable? Think about it for a moment.
β¨ Examples of Minerals
Imagine Reena's little brother playing with mud. While Meena might think it's yucky, that mud, that soil, is super important for all of us! So today, let's explore how soil helps us every single day.
β¨ Layers of Soil
As we learn, I want you to think about the main things that make up soil. Remember that even deep below the Earth’s surface, we find rocks, sometimes in a molten form! We'll learn how these rocks, along with minerals, play a vital role in forming the soil we depend on.
